What are the start and finish times?

The workshop is from 8:30am – 5pm. We will aim for movement breaks throughout the day as it’s quite an intensive 4-day training program. Registration on both the first and third day will be from 8am.

Can I claim this Professional Development on my tax return?

As a company or sole trader, if you are registered for GST, then you may also be able to claim GST on the ticket price – please check these details with your accountant.

Do I have to come every day, or can I pick and choose?

You can come to days 1 & 2 or days 3 &4 or all 4 days.

Day 1 & 2: “Paediatric Feeding Assessment and Therapy” is aimed at beginner level therapists new to feeding therapy or therapists who would like to expand their knowledge in feeding assessment and therapy.

Day 3 & 4: “Paediatric Feeding in the Complex Caseload” is aimed at intermediate level therapists who have experience in paediatric feeding and are seeing a more complex caseload. These 2 days will include case study discussions and guest speakers.

What if I am a beginner therapist and would like to come to all 4 days?

Then you will get an excellent grounding in paediatric feeding. The first 2 days (“Paediatric Feeding Assessment and Therapy”) will set you up for learning in second 2 days of the workshop (“Paediatric Feeding in the Complex Caseload”). The days are meant to go together so they form a comprehensive program to maximise your learning.

What about if I am an intermediate therapist, should I come to the first 2 days?

Experienced therapists that are interested in learning more detail about our Responsive Feeding House Model and our assessment process will benefit from attending the first 2 days (“Paediatric Feeding Assessment and Therapy”). Feeding assessments will not be covered in the second 2 days (“Paediatric Feeding in the Complex Caseload”) as these 2 days will focus on feeding therapy in complex caseloads.

What if I have done your masterclasses? What should I attend?

Day 1 and Day 2 (“Paediatric Feeding Assessment and Therapy”) of the postgraduate feeding workshop takes the 6 hours of content covered in our masterclasses and doubles it by going into a greater level of detail. So, it depends on you – if you felt the masterclasses gave you enough content then move straight into booking the intermediate days (“Paediatric Feeding in the Complex Caseload”) but if you want more in-depth content with what you learned in the masterclasses, then book the full 4 days.

What if I can’t attend face to face – is there another option?

Yes, you can live stream, via Zoom, into this hybrid workshop. Like our masterclasses, we will use virtual breakout rooms when everyone who attends face to face breaks out into small groups. These breakout/small groups sessions are essential in helping you practice what you are learning. Val and Debbie will split up throughout the day, so you have access to both throughout the day.

What if something happens on the day with my internet (or my life!) and I can’t watch the entire 4 days virtually or live?

The entire workshop is being recorded so you will have access to these modules for 4 weeks from the day of the workshop.

What about the costs around virtual vs face to face options?

COVID has changed a lot with face to face workshops and now we have this new term – “hybrid workshops”. It’s an exciting space technology wise and one that benefits everyone – here is why:

  1. Can still opt to go virtually on the day if things change in their life e.g., get COVID themselves or their babysitting options fall through or borders close!
  2. They can even swap half way e.g. attend Wednesday-Thursday face to face and then change to virtual for Friday-Saturday – also useful if plans change on a personal level (e.g. they get a cold and don’t want to attend and spread germs)
  3. All of the modules are being recorded so they can watch it later if they missed something or want to review a module
  1. Hybrid workshops allow for more engaged involvement from virtual delegates – there will be 2 big screens in the room – one with the slides, and one with the virtual delegates. This means everyone in the room can see the virtual delegates and everyone virtually (when we walk around the room) can see the people in the room.
  2. If you ask a question using your microphone on zoom, we will turn the audio output on so everyone (virtually and people in the room) can hear your question. It actually gives you a much more interactive role than just looking at a computer screen all day.
  3. Being a live event (and not recorded modules) means that when everyone in the conference room breaks out for small group work, you will do the same – just virtually. Both speakers (Val and Debbie) will then rotate small groups (face to face and virtually) so that over the 4 days, we get to meet you all.

The ticket price reflects the same cost on both types of tickets (virtual and face to face). Hybrid events have AV people in the room to support the virtual delegates to get more interactive involvement in their workshop and face to face delegates also get the benefit of recorded modules just like the virtual delegates do. How often do you attend a face to face workshop and then get access to recorded modules for a month? Times are changing in the presentation space and we are riding this new technology wave of presenting in innovative ways that work for everyone.

Is this workshop aimed at Speech Pathologists only or other allied health as well?

The workshop is aimed at any health professional working in paediatric feeding. While Val and Debbie are both speech pathologists, there will be guest speakers who are a Dietitian and an Occupational Therapist in the second 2 days (“Paediatric Feeding in the Complex Caseload”). We will all work together to build your knowledge in paediatric feeding.

What is not covered in this 4-day postgraduate feeding workshop?

Breastfeeding and bottle-feeding difficulties will not be covered in this workshop because there just isn’t enough time. We hope to launch this workshop as a 5-day workshop in 2023 but 4 days for now seemed intense. Don’t worry, you will be able to buy this specialised one day feeding ticket when it is released in 2023.

Where is the workshop?

We are currently speaking with a venue in the Sydney CBD that is close to Central Station. As the contract hasn’t been signed, we can’t release this final detail yet, but rest assured that this will be released in the next week.

What is included in the ticket price?

All delegates attending will receive :

If my workplace registers more than one person from the same company, do we get a discount?

Yes, you do, by booking 3 or more attendees from one company, you will save between $40-$90/ticket, which is a saving of $270 for 3 tickets with the early bird special. It is well worth getting a team together and completing the training workshop together. Please remember that cameras will be required to stay on for the entire workshop and you will sign an IP contract before starting so you cannot share your ticket/computer screen with another attendee if they have not paid for a ticket. We will contact you to arrange another ticket price if this occurs.

How is your workshop different to other feeding workshops?

Our workshop content has been written by 2 speech pathologists who have combined, over 35 years’ experience in paediatric feeding. The content presented is exactly how we manage our caseload in our own paediatric feeding private practices. Our practices have excellent reputations and equally excellent outcomes – we are passionate about what we do!

We are going to teach you our feeding framework (Feeding Therapy Australia Responsive House Model) that can be used with any child with feeding difficulties no matter how complex. Our responsive house model is grounded in evidence-based theory. It breaks down the complexities of feeding difficulties so that families can make the changes at home that generalise across all settings. Together with the templates provided, you will have what you need to begin feeding assessment and therapy with your caseload straight away.
